Did Mauritania finally accredit Hamid Chabar as an ambassador of Morocco in Nouakchott?

Mauritania has allegedly accredited Hamid Chabar as Morocco’s ambassador to Nouakchott. This is what several Moroccan media outlets reported on Wednesday 4th of October, quoting a Mauritanian online newspaper.

However, Essaha.info is the only Mauritanian media that published the information. It said that the Moroccan diplomat, Hamid Chabar will finally be able to hand over his «letters of credence» to the Mauritanian authorities. Neither the official Mauritanian news agency nor newspapers close to the regime have spoken about this information.

Contacted by Yabiladi, a source from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said that Nasser Bourita’s department refuses to comment on the circulating news, indicating that «an official statement will be published and addressed to local media, in case there is something new about this matter».

Ten days ago, the Mauritanian Minister of Culture and Handicraft, said in a press conference that Nouakchott is still examining the Moroccan request and promised that Mauritania will respond soon.

For the record, Morocco has announced the appointment of Hamid Chabar as Morocco's ambassador to Mauritania on the 27th of June. A decision that took place six months after the death of Abderrahmane Benomar who had been the ambassador of the Kingdom in Nouakchott for more than fifteen years.
