Saadeddine El Othmani is the new PJD Secretary-General

The 8th PJD Congress was unsurprisingly concluded. Saadeddine El Othmani was elected Secretary General of the Justice and Development Party with 1006 votes against 912 for Driss Azami.

After leading the party between 2004 and 2008, El Othmani took over the helm of the Islamist party preceding Benkiran’s 9-year-long term.

Abdelilah Benkirane congratulated his successor for his victory, which El Othmani owes essentially to the support of the Reform and Unity movement. The latter rejected Benkiran’s wish to apply for the third consecutive term.
