A delegation made up of 22 members of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) parliament will pay a visit to Morocco on March 20-25, Speaker of the ECOWAS parliament, Moustapha Cissé Lo, announced on Thursday.
A delegation of the ECOWAS parliament will pay a visit to Morocco on March 20-25 at the invitation of Speaker of the House of Representatives (Morocco’s Lower House), Habib El Malki, Cissé Lo told radio program «Carrefour de l'info» aired on Radio 2M.
«There are areas of convergence that we need to develop together for the benefit of our community,» said Cissé Lo, who is taking part in the Crans Montana Forum in Dakhla.
He also said that the ECOWAS parliament is working on speeding up the process of integration, which will enable people in the region to move freely, to enjoy the right of establishment and to trade in a joint, global and strong market.
«We represent 330 million people in addition to Morocco,» he noted, stressing the need «to encourage our governments to go in this direction, because it is time for large groupings.»
Cissé Lo underlined the need to address the issue of young people who die while attempting to cross the Mediterranean into Europe.
«There are a lot of problems that we have to discuss and solve, as does HM King Mohammed VI,» he said, while praising «the strong acts» of the sovereign.
«I was not surprised when King Mohammed VI made a request to join ECOWAS,» said Cissé Lo, adding that Morocco is a transit area for West Africa to the north as well as «a beautiful country with important potentialities and socio-economic reality».
According to him, Morocco has made huge efforts at the economic level, in terms of infrastructure, the improvement of living conditions and human rights.
