As Secretary General of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), Prime Minister Saadeddine El Othmani announced yesterday the launch of an internal dialogue to surpass differences between the party’s members. The body created in March, intended to assure the unity of the party affected after the sacking of former Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane after he failed to form a new government.

Unlike other bodies affiliated to the Islamist party, the PJD’s internal dialogue committee is exclusively reserved to the closest members to El Othmani such as Abdelali Hamieddine, Amina Maa El Ainin and Maimouna Aftati, the wife of Abdelaziz Aftati, as well as Driss Azami, head of the national council.

Change at the educational levels

Speaking to members of the committee, El Othmani stated that «the aim behind the dialogue is also to sort out a collective vision … this vision will enable the party to adopt new ideas at the intellectual, methodological, and educational level …», reported Middle East Monitor on Monday.

«The developing events that have occurred inside the party indicate the need to for scrutiny and change at the intellectual and educational levels», he added referring to the changes the party witnessed in the last few months with Bekirane ousted and his presumed third term.

Moreover, El Othmani urged his «brothers» and «sisters» to focus on ideas and not people. He stressed that this initiative requires the participation and determination of all members of the PJD in particular and all Moroccans in general. Indeed. El Othmani announced that «30,000» people are part of his party.

Unlike the meeting he attended on Friday, 13th of April, alongside a group of deputies, the PJD’s secretary general has preferred yesterday to tone down the harshness of his remarks. While he «warned» the others against «publishing erroneous information that undermines the unity of the party» he was more tolerant with the members of the internal dialogue committee.
