A political rally expected to be led by former Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane has been postponed, a well-informed source told Yabiladi.

The gathering was scheduled for Sunday, 29th of April, at the Royal Theater in Marrakech and was organized by the youth of the Justice and Development Party.

«The decision was not revealed until the last moments to the body’s secretary general Mohamed Amekraz, forcing the organizers to postpone the event to a later date», the same source who requested anonymity told Yabiladi. Meanwhile, Benkirane has not commented on the rescheduled gathering.

Benkirane’s latest appearance was amid the viral boycott campaign that targets three major companies in Morocco.

Speaking to Arabic-language daily newspaper Akhbar Al Yaoum, the PJD politician said he was «surprised» that the campaign is including mineral bottled water producer Sidi Ali, and diary company Centrale Laitière while their prices have not been increased.

The ousted Islamist is expected to attend two different meetings next week in Tangier and Salé. The same source believes that it is unlikely for the politician to take part in the above-mentioned gatherings.

Commenting on the boycott compaign

«Without doubt, Benkirane’s latest comments on the major boycott campaign have angered some parties in the government», assumes the same source.

Benkirane said he «understands» the reasons behind boycotting fuel supplier Afriquia gas (owned by Fisheries Minister Aziz Akhannouch), stressing that fuel prices have significantly increased.

His comments have been seen as an indirect call from the PJD politician to continue with the boycott.

For the record, some members of the PJD accuse Fisheries minister Aziz Akhannouch, who also owns one of the boycotted companies, for having been behind the dismissal of Abdelilah Benkirane in March 2017 by King Mohammed VI.

The last time Benkirane addressed the public was in February the 6th at a youth congress hosted by the party. During that meeting, he warned against the consequences of «being a businessman and a politician at the same time», stressing that «only politicians are in the best position to deal with citizens».
