A Moroccan Jewish memorial museum to open soon in Fez

Discussions are underway to examine the possibilities of creating a Moroccan Jewish memorial museum in Fez, says president of Morocco’s National Museum Foundation (FNM) Mehdi Qotbi. 

Visiting the Israeli Cemetery in Fez and the Batha Museum on Wednesday, Qotbi declared that : «We are discussing the launch of a Moroccan Jewish memorial museum», that will «a meaningful message from Fez to the whole world (… ) and a way of highlighting common heritage».

He stressed that «this memorial should not obscure an essential part of our culture which is Judaism».

For the president of the Jewish community of Fez, Oujda and Sefrou, Armand Guigui, this visit aims to highlight the memorial places of the Jewish community of Fes, in order to choose a place for the museum.

The mayor of Fez, Driss Azami Idrissi, also stressed the fact that this initiative will spotlight the civilization, cultural and historical aspects of the city.
