Born in Casablanca, Amine Radi left his hometown when he was only 18 years old to study accounting in Dijon. In the capital of Burgundy, a historical region in east-central France, the young student cracked his first jokes «out of boredom». Amine told Yabiladi that he started a Youtube channel and uploaded videos just to fill his time.
«It all started with a video that was very well received. Since then, people encouraged me and I decided to create a Facebook page where I posted videos regularly», he explained.
«It has never been my dream to be a standup comedian. After graduating high school, coming to France changed my life, dreams and goals. I had no ambitions before, no dreams».
Daily life and interacting with people
Amine then moved to Paris and «discovered a whole new world». «Paris is not France, it felt like Casablanca and Morocco», he said. Once there, the humorist felt inspired and based his videos on his experience in the city and the people he met there.
In addition to everyday life, the young man was essentially inspired by the news. «I speak about it very often because that is what speaks to people and teaches them things. It also allowed me to express my point of view about things», he explained. It could be the expensive university fees to terrorism.
Indeed, there are many themes that the comedian tackles, but they are all related to everyday life and his personal experience. «These are things that affect people, which affects me too and so I try to be frank and honest».
«For videos, I read about topics and then I make a video about one of them. For example when I chose to talk about terrorism I went and read about the dates, the attacks and the stories. I also talked about Salah Abdessalam, the most wanted man in Europe who was finally arrested in Belgium at his home».
From Youtube to standup comedy
2018 was a turning point for Amine Radi who decided to meet his audience for the first time on stage. «I was invited to go on stage in Tunisia and there were 4,500 people who came to see me. It all started from there», he told Yabiladi.
The experienced marked Amine Radi, who revealed that «Tunisians made [him] do the standup comedy thing».
«They really welcomed me as a star. There were people at the airport, there were even fake tickets that were sold, and people who jumped off the fence to attend the show», he recalled.
In 2019, the young comedian is planning to tour France with his show «Va dormir va» all while finishing his studies.
