Dutch-Moroccan rapper Faisal Mssyeh killed in a Rotterdam shooting on New Year’s Eve

Shot on New Year’s Eve, Dutch-born Moroccan rapper died on Tuesday at a Rotterdam hospital. Faisal Mssyeh, known as Feis Ecktuh, was killed following a series of shootings that shook the city.

Dutch-born Moroccan rapper Faisal Mssyeh, was killed in a brutal shooting on New Year’s Eve in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. According to Dutch online newspaper NL Times, Mssyeh known by his stage name Feis Ecktuh, died in the hospital hours after midnight.

A 31-year-old man was also injured in the shooting that took the life of the 32-year-old rap musician. Accoridng to Dutch newspaper Parool, the man is Faisal's brother and he is, reportedly, seriously injured.

Police said that seven people were arrested, following the deadly shooting, including four men aged between 36 and 45. Two women and a 15-year-old teenager were also arrested for alleged links to the tragedy and were taken into custody. 

«The shooting took place on Nieuwe Binnenweg in the Middelland district», the newspaper said quoting Dutch police officers.

Rotterdam's beloved rapper

Born in Rotterdam on January the 25th, 1986, Faisal Mssyeh is a known rapper in the Dutch city. His career started in 2014 after he released his first «solo album», recalled the same source. The rapper released his second album and Extended Play (EP) in 2015.

Known figures from the Dutch musical scene reacted to the death of the Moroccan rapper, showing their compassion and presenting their condolences. «Going to miss you. Your super-talent, sense of humor, and the way you always stood ready for everyone», wrote Dutch record producer Kees de Koning.

Meanwhile, Dutch radio host Giel Beelen said that the incident was a «loss for Dutch hip-hop». Musician YS stated that «every rapper in [the Netherlands] grew up with Feis», adding : «We lost a legend».

Other musicians showed support for the young rapper’s family, including rapper Steeky Steez from the Dutch record label specializing in hip-hop, Top Notch, indicating that Feis was a «stand-up guy and a great rapper», reported NLtimes.

Reports in the Netherlands suggest that the rapper was allegedly targeted by a criminal network. Indeed, several shootings took place in Rotterdam on Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

According to NLtimes, police arrested, Tuesday, a woman’s upstairs neighbors after she accused them of opening fire on the ceiling. Shots were fired at a Rotterdam café the same day and then into a house.

The shooting in which Feiz died is believed to be related to the incident that took place earlier that day.
