Australia’s Costa Group opens a berry packing facility in Morocco

Australia's largest horticultural company Costa Group has opened a new berry facility in Morocco, reports Fresh Plaza.

The new plant will be a berry packing platform that is «at the forefront of berry exports to the European Union, the United Kingdom, Russia and Asia», the same source said.

Located in Larache, northern Morocco, the 10,000 square meter facility will be the biggest berry packing place, targeting the European market. It has a capacity of up to 12,000 tonnes of blueberries a year and is able to process 150 tonnes a day.

«This facility will enhance the quality and reputation of Costa Group’s world leading blueberry genetics, which have been grown in Morocco for over a decade», said Costa Berry International General Manager, Peter McPherson.

«The blueberry varieties that we grow give us a distinct competitive advantage in the United Kingdom, European Union and Russia as we are able to deliver a premium fresh product into those markets», he added.
