On Tuesday, London-based NGO Amnesty International announced that the Moroccan authorities refused to let two of its researchers enter the Moroccan territory to carry out a human rights investigation.
On Thursday, the government commented on the decision. The government spokesperson Mustapha El Khalfi told reporters during a press briefing held on the same day that «the entry and stay of foreigners is monitored and governed by the country’s laws, which must be respected».
For the record, Morocco and the international human rights organization weren’t in good terms in June, 2015. At the time, the government expelled two of Amnesty International’s experts who came to Morocco to investigate the living conditions of sub-Saharan migrants in the Kingdom.
To overcome tensions, former Justice Minister Mustapha Ramid held a meeting in January, 2016, in London with the Secretary-General of Amnesty International to address the «misunderstanding».
