On February the 21st, the High Authority of Audiovisual Communication (HACA) decided to issue a warning against the Moroccan Public broadcasting station (SNRT) after the channel broadcast a stand-up comedy contest in which a competitor used the word «Kahlouch» (black) as his stage name.
In a communiqué sent Friday to Yabiladi, the authority ruled that the word «kahlouch», frequently used by the stand-up comedian, is discriminatory and could harm a group of people and violate laws and regulations related to human dignity.
The content of the sketch performed by the Moroccan stand-up comedian, was highly criticized by social media users in the Kingdom. It was seen by some of them as «discriminating against» sub-Saharan Africans in Morocco.
