Hassan II University remembers the Moroccan professor killed in the Ethiopian Airlines crash

On Tuesday morning, the Faculty of sciences and technologies at Hassan II University in Casablanca rendered homage to El Hassan Essayouti, a nuclear physics professor who worked at the institution.

Essayouti is one of the 157 passengers who died Sunday, after an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 Max 8 crashed near Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

During this occasion, the professor’s former colleagues remembered him through the speech of the university’s dean.

Rachida Roky, a biology professor told Yabiladi, Tuesday, that the deceased was «a very appreciated and loved colleague who was always available for his students».

She recalls that the Essayouti was «a very active activist», and that he was on a mission with the UN for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

«We met him last Thursday, when he announced that he is going to Nairobi, Kenya, and we said goodbye; we are very touched because this tragedy was not expected», the professor said.

Moroccan official at the Ministry of Energy and Ecologist Ben Ahmed Chihab was also killed in the same crash. The latter was attending an UN-backed panel on the Convention on Biodiversity, flying to Nairobi on his birthday : 10th of March.
