A Muslim immigrant was denied a green card application by the United States, reports the Independent. The decision was taken after the man, who married an US citizen, was detained at Border Patrol checkpoint in Texas, where he was served pork sandwiches only.
For more than six days, the Muslim man was forced to eat pork, which is restricted in Islam.
Although Adnan Asif Parveen had a work permit allowing him to work legally in the United States, while his application for a green card was pending, the border police arrested and detained him.
He also said that two immigration and customs officers (ICE) had questioned him about potential links to terrorism and possible anti-American resentment within his mosque.
Democratic Representative Grace Meng wrote a letter to the Department of Homeland Security to investigate the allegations. According to HuffPost, several lawyers, including Mr. Asif's lawyer, Cathy Potter, believe that the inmate's religion might be one of the reasons why his request for a green card was rejected.
