On Sunday, March the 11th, the Moroccan Ministry of Interior announced in a statement that it repatriated «eight Moroccan terrorist fighters from Syria». The operation was part of the Kingdom’s «contribution» to «international efforts to fight against terrorism».

On Thursday, a group that represents the families of Moroccan detainees in Iraq urged the Moroccan government to take care of their relatives «arrested during the US occupation of Iraq and repatriate them».

In a statement published on its Facebook page, the group stated that five Moroccan prisoners have been detained for 14 years, in Iraq, in bad conditions».

In August 2012, former Foreign Affairs Minister Saadeddine El Othmani sent a letter to his Iraqi counterpart Hochiar Zebari for the extradition of Moroccan prisoners held in Iraq.

For the record, the Moroccans nationals repatriated from Syria, earlier this month, were in the hands of the Syrian Democratic Forces, backed by the United States.
