UN Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers Diego Garcia Sayan announced, Tuesday, that he has canceled his visit to Morocco, initially scheduled from March the 20th to the 26th.

«When a state does not facilitate things, it is no longer possible to conduct a mission», he wrote on his Twitter account.

In a statement, published later, he explained that : «It is very regrettable that the (Moroccan) government has not taken into consideration the proposals for sites to visit and the program of work. It is an essential condition in fulfilling the mission of a special rapporteur.»

Peruvian judge Diego Garcia Sayan has been in this position since December 2016.

On March 1, the Moroccan government admitted to having refused the entry of two experts from Amnesty International. «The entry and stay of foreigners are governed by the country’s laws. It must be respected», the Government’s spokesperson Mustapha El Khalfi said in a press briefing.
