Women in New Zealand will be wearing hijab on Friday, 22nd of March, to honor the people who died in the terrorist attack that targeted two mosques in Christchurch last week, reports online newspaper News Hub.
The initiative was launched by Anna Thomas, who started a nationwide event called «Scarves in Solidarity». Through this action, the woman urged Kiwis to show up one week after the terrorist attacks, wearing headscarves to tell «Muslims in New Zealand that they are not alone».
«I just thought why don't we all wear a scarf on Friday, a week on from this tragedy and walk alongside our Muslim sisters as a mark of respect», she told the same source.
Thomas’ call was made online, through a Facebook page that bears the name of the action. Men are also allowed to participate to the even and wear a scarf over their shoulders to show support for the Muslim community.
For the record, 50 people were killed and 50 others were injured in a terrorist attack that was carried by an Australian self-declared supremacist. The terrorist opened fire, March the 15th, on Muslim worshippers at two mosques in the city.
