The United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) updated on Wednesday, March the 20th, information and advice on «the threat from terrorism in Morocco, reflecting an increased threat», reports British newspaper the Independent.
«Terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Morocco. You should be vigilant at all times», warns the new travel advisory.
The FCO links the new update to the terrorist attack that targeted two Scandinavian tourists in December, 2018, in Imlil, a small town near Morocco’s highest peak.
«The Moroccan authorities have warned of an increased threat linked to the number of Moroccans sympathetic or belonging to Daesh and other extremist groups», wrote the office, adding that they «regularly report the disruption of terrorist cells across the country».
Moreover, the FCO stressed in its updated travel advisory that «there’s considered to be a heightened threat of terrorist attack globally against UK interests and British nationals, from groups or individuals motivated by the conflict in Iraq and Syria», urging British nationals to «be vigilant at this time».
For the record, the two Scandinavian mountaineers were murdered by a four-member terror cell, that pledged allegiance to ISIS one week after the attack.
