An individual ran at the car that was carrying King Mohammed VI after the arrival of Pope Francis to Rabat, Saturday, in a two-day visit, reports the Guardian.
The person in question was, quickly, stopped by security guards that were accompanying the royal procession in Rabat. A live TV footage, broadcast on national TV channel Al Aoula, showed the individual trying to cross the road, heading towards the King’s car.
In a communiqué, relayed by MAP news agency, the General Directorate for National Security (DGSN) announced that the person in question is a minor who got arrested on the spot.
According to the first results of the investigation, the 17-year-old minor living in Salé tried to approach the royal car to present a complaint to King Mohammed VI about the state of health of his parents, DGSN said in the same statement.
For the record, this incident took place as Pope Francis is visiting Morocco for the first time. The Pope headed, shortly after his arrival, to the Esplanade of the Hassan Mosque in Rabat, where he delivered a speech alongside King Mohammed VI.
