After he was appointed as Algeria’s Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Ramtane Lamamra’s name is not on the list of the new government appointed Sunday.
Lamamra’s dismissal was announced while he was in Tunisia, attending the Arab League summit. In Tunis, he held several meetings with senior officials, including Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat and the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Lamamra’s sacking comes as Algeria is still home to protests, opposing President Abdelaziz Bouteflika. Ratmane Lamamra has been replaced by Sabri Boukadoum, the current permanent representative of Algeria at the UN.
