After setting up a 27-member «committee of wise men» to establish a «roadmap» for the Polisario Front’s upcoming congress, Brahim Ghali found himself in a difficult situation.

The Committee established to prepare for the Polisario’s next congress has submitted several suggestions, aimed in particular at creating a «presidential council» and a position for a «vice president», reports pro-Polisario online newspaper Futuro Sahara reported on Monday.

The new proposition is expected to «limit the powers» of the Polisario’s next Secretary-General and monitor the budget of the separatist movement.

The committee in question, which is mainly composed of officials who have been taking control of the separatist movement since the 1970s, suggested to «separate military institutions from politics», the same source said. It also recalled that the committee’s meetings were held in a house in Tindouf and were presented as reflection gatherings.

Futuro Sahara indicates that the members of this body, launched by Brahim Ghali, are from different tribes that have been «at war for more than three decades» and that it was surprising to see that they have managed to reach a common ground.

«Yesterday’s enemies are tomorrow’s friends», stated the same source, adding that they «are trying to relaunch an old system that has been harmful to the Sahrawi people and its national achievements».

Futuro Sahara, however, failed to mention that Mohamed Lamine Ould El Bouhali, who is known for being close to the newspaper, is also a member of said committee. Moreover, several leading figures of Brahim Ghali's movement, including Hama Salama, Khatri Addouh, Bashir Mustapha Sayed, Abdelkader Taleb Oumar and Abdellah Lahbib sit alongside Ould El Bouhali.
