One month after New Zealand was home to one of the deadliest terrorist attacks, the country announced, Wednesday, that it is disarming its police officers, lowering the terrorism threat level, AFP reports.
The threat level has been moved from high to medium, the same source said, adding that «authorities judge that another attack, violent criminal behavior, or violent protest remains feasible rather than very high».
Commenting on the decision, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said that «there is no current specific threat», explaining that security agencies believe that the current threat level «accurately reflects our current status».
On March the 15th, 50 Muslim worshipers were killed at two of Christchurch’s mosques. Fifty other people were injured in the terrorist attack orchestrated by an Australian terrorist who published a racist manifesto, weeks before the massacre.
