Days before the Security Council adopts a new resolution on the Western Sahara conflict, the Polisario Front mobilized one of its representatives in New York. The separatist movement’s representative to the United Nations Sidi Mohamed Omar met, Tuesday, with the permanent representative of Germany to the United Nations and current president of the Security Council Christoph Hooschen.

According to the Front’s press agency (SPS), which published a photo of Omar and Hooschen, reported that this meeting «comes within other meetings conducted by the Polisario’s representative with UNSC members in the light of the report», submitted by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on April 1st.

During this meeting, the Polisario representative sought the opportunity to address the letter «sent by the Front» to the current President of the Security Council, and which «has been circulated as an official document to all members of the Council», the same source said.

For the record, the UN Security Council is expected to adopt a resolution on the Western Sahara conflict that would extend the mandate of the MINURSO by the end of April.

During the same month, the UN Security Council held a closed-door consultation on MINURSO. The meeting was attended by the personal envoy Horst Köhler.
