Members of an irregular immigration network using Facebook sentenced to prison

A court in Tangier has sentenced the members of a network that facilitate irregular migration and that promoted their services on Facebook to prison sentences, Arabic-language newspaper Al Akhbar reported on Friday.

The members of the network, known as the «Facebook Band», were sentenced for forming a criminal gang and for promoting irregular immigration.

Media sources explain that the first suspect admitted to having created a Facebook page, in which he attracted potential customers , including a man from Khemisset who contacted him.

When questioned by the police, the latter stated that he had agreed with the administrator of said page on the meeting place before heading to Tangier with his sister and his wife. But they were reportedly taken to a secluded place near the Tangier stadium and got their money stolen by the members of the network in question.

Victims immediately went to the police station to file a complaint. The authorities arrested the suspects who admitted that have committed 9 other similar crimes, the newspaper concluded.
