Swiss MEP Liliane Maury Pasquier, who is the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, received a Polisario delegation in Strasbourg on Wednesday.

The delegation, headed by the Front’s representative in France Oubbi Boucheraya Bachir, had reportedly delivered a letter from Khatri Adduh, the President of the Polisario’s National Council, to Pasquier «giving a detailed presentation on the latest developments» of the Western Sahara dispute, SPS reported.

This meeting was an opportunity for the delegation to «address human rights violations in the Sahara» and slam the alleged «support of some of the UN Security Council’s members», the same source reported.

To Brahim Ghali’s movement, «the meeting held at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg is a first in the history of the Parliamentary Assembly».

In 2014, the assembly was on the verge of adopting a resolution that was hostile to Morocco before it was amended. In 2015, the assembly adopted a resolution that addressed Western Sahara and human rights.

The hostility of some MEPs towards Morocco and their support for the Polisario Front, especially within the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, is not new. Earlier in April, a member of the body urged the Assembly to question the Sahara issue.
