Spanish far-left party Podemos has urged the «People’s Advocate», a body that ensures the protection of all human rights and freedoms by public authorities, to «immediately stop the expulsion of 23 unaccompanied minors» from Morocco, El Pais reported on Thursday.
In a letter written by Spanish politician Isa Serra, the party called the body to monitor the «proceedings» of this decision and «guarantee the rights» of these minors, the same source said.
For the record, the Spanish and Moroccan governments have already launched an operation to return unaccompanied Moroccan minors, housed in centers in Spain, El Pais said.
The first phase of this operation has been launched, with 23 young people hosted in a center in Madrid. They were summoned by the prosecutor’s office to attend a series of interviews conducted by a Moroccan delegation.
The Spanish government said that young people who did not wish to return to Morocco would not be sent back, and that each case would be studied separately.
