Two British Conservative candidates were suspended for sharing Islamophobic posts on Facebook, The Guardian reports. These messages posted on the social media platform refer to Muslims as «bin bag wearing individuals» and called for the banning of Quran, they described as «evil book».

A Conservative local election candidate wrote that people in the UK must «boycott» Muslim-owned shops and liked a comment that «labelled the religion’s followers ‘sub-human’ and ‘cockroaches’», the same source said.

Commenting on the decision, chairman of the Conservative Muslim Forum Mohammed Amin told the Guardian that «the serious question the Conservative party has to ask itself is : what is it about the image that it is projecting that causes people with these views to think they belong in the Conservative party?».

Speaking to the same source, a spokesperson of the Conservative party stressed that «where we have found evidence of discrimination or abuse, swift action has been taken».
