Morocco’s grains office received no offers in EU soft wheat import tender

Morocco received no offers in a tender to import 363,636 tons of soft wheat from the European Union, under the preferential tariff trade agreement, announced on Monday the country’s grains office ONICL, quoted by British news agency Reuters.

The tender submitted by the Moroccan office «called for wheat to arrive by May 31», the same source said, adding that the country received no answer. The deadline set by ONCIL ended on April 25th.

For the record, Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Aziz Akhannouch said earlier in April that Morocco’s «cereal crop is expected to fall by 19 percent this year due to rainfall shortage».

According to the Minister, the kingdom is «expected to harvest 6.6 million tons of cereal crop, down from 8.2 million tons last year». The harvest includes «3.8 million tons of soft wheat, 1.5 million tons of durum and 1.3 tons of barley», the ministry said in a statement, quoted by Xinhua.
