Racist and religious hate attacks have been on the rise in London following the Christchurch terror attacks that killed 50 Muslim worshippers in New Zealand, BBC reported Wednesday, quoting data provided by the London police.
According to the same source, the London police recorded 1,630 hate offences in March, the same month during which an Australian terrorist opened fire on worshippers at two mosques in Christchurch.
156 of these offences were deemed Islamophobic, almost twice the number recorded the previous month.
British project which records and measures anti-Muslim incidents in the UK Tell MAMA said it has seen an unprecedented increase in the number of reports related to anti-Muslim hate crimes as a reaction to the Christchurch attacks.
«Our figures corroborate police figures and show a latency of anti-Muslim prejudice that is sadly a part of our society now», said Tell MAMA director Iman Atta.
