58 migrants arrived, Friday, in the southern Italian island of Lampedusa in a boat, American press agency Associated Press (AP) reports.

Quoting the Italian news agency ANSA, AP said that the 57 migrants and one woman who reached the island are from Morocco, Algeria, Syria, Libya, Gambia and Bangladesh. They sailed for Lampedusa through Libya, the same source said.

According to the same source, around 1,100 migrants arrived in Italy in 2019. Moroccans and Afghans top the list of migrants arriving in southern Europe, said AP, quoting the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
