The Polisario does not believe the «health reasons», as communicated by the UN, behind Horst Kohler’s resignation. «There are other reasons», said M'Hamed Khaddad in statements to the agency Sputnik relayed by SPS.

«Since his appointment, the former personal envoy of the UN Secretary-General has faced obstacles in the accomplishment of his duties with the European Union and the UN. France has always hindered the action and the work of Mr. Kohler», claims the coordinator of the Front with MINURSO.

Khaddad also says that the former German president has «lost the support of both the Security Council and the European Union».

For the Polisario representative, Morocco would have also contributed to the departure of Kohler. The Kingdom would have «systematically undermined» all efforts by the German diplomat to «give a role to the African Union in resolving the conflict».

On May 23, the Polisario leadership said it was «deeply saddened» by the resignation of the former UN mediator.
