Morocco's Marouane Chamakh announces his retirement as a professional player

While on the show «L'Expresso» Sunday morning on beIN Sports, 35-year old Marouane Chamakh, without a club since his departure from Cardiff City in 2016, announced that he was retiring from the field, to embrace another career as a coach or a consultant.

«It's been two years since I really quit football. It was intentional. Officially, I did not say that I was retiring. I am not into social networks. I really wanted to quit football and get closer to my family. Today, I can say that I really retired from football», said Marouane Chamakh during the broadcast.

Although he has officially announced his retirement, the former Moroccan international is not planning to leave the football world entirely: «I will try to return to football as a consultant or a coach. I will try to pass diplomas too», he told beIN Sports.

A native of Tonneins, the former Moroccan international striker, began his career in 2003 at the Girondins de Bordeaux, where he was first trained. He later played for Arsenal, West Ham and Crystal Palace, before joining Cardiff City.

For the record, Marouane Chamakh has worn the Morocco jersey 65 times and scored 18 goals with the Atlas Lions.
