Parties representing the Muslim community in both Melilla and Ceuta achieved different results following Spanish local elections' vote, held Sunday.

In Melilla, Mustafa Aberchan’s Coalicion por Melilla (CpM) won eight seats in a 25-seat assembly. The party’s chances to preside a local government are real but depend on forming a coalition with the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) and Ciudadanos.

Socialists got four councilors while the center-right formation got only one. After announcing the local elections’ results, CpM leader reached out to both parties.

In Ceuta, Mohamed Ali’s Caballas party and the Movement for Dignity and Citizenship (MDC) lost seats in this election, compared to 2015. The official results show that MDC managed to secure two seats while Caballas got only one.

In Ceuta, Vox achieved a real breakthrough receiving 22.37% of the votes, and securing 6 seats. Without the support of the far-right party, PP will not be able to govern the city in the next four years.
