One of the main suspects in the Imlil attack admitted in court, Thursday, that he killed one of the two Scandinavian mountaineers and said his partner killed the other, AFP reports.

The leader of the cell said that the attack on the two tourists was carried in the name of ISIS. «I beheaded one of the… I regret it», Abdessamad E. said at the opening of the trial.

«We loved ISIS and we prayed to God for it», he said as he was among the twenty-four defendants who appeared in court for charges that include promoting terrorism, forming a terrorist cell and premeditated murder, the French press agency said. The three main suspects are accused of «direct involvement in the killings».

Abdessamad E. was sentenced before for trying to join ISIS in Syria. In court, he said that he planed the Imlil mission in December, when the tourists were killed.

The suspects waited for four days in the Atlas Mountains to find their victims, as most foreigners were with guides and locals.

The prosecution revealed that the two men killed the two women while the third one used his phone to film the criminal act. The graphic footage was then sent to groups of ISIS supporters, AFP wrote.

A foreigner is also tried in the same case. He is a Swiss-Spanish national who converted to Islam and moved to Morocco in 2015.

The next hearing will be held in June 13th. The opening hearing for the trial was held in May 2, the same source said.

For the record, the bodies of Maren Ueland (28) and Louisa Vesterager Jespersen (24) were found 10 kilometers away from Imlil by French mountaineers, in December 2018. They had arrived in Morocco to prepare for a mountaineering tournament and climb Mount Toubkal.
