On Saturday June 1, 2019, a silk flag that belonged to Moroccan military leader Mohammed Abdelkrim El Khattabi was auctioned in Caen, a commune in France. According to Ouest France, the flag was sold for €40,000.
Military objects and German propaganda posters from the Second World War ear were also part of the public sale, attended by only a few people.
El Khattabi’s silk flag attracted many buyers during the auction. Tow buyers, including a 48-year-old Moroccan living in Rennes, were trying to purchase the flag.
The Moroccan couldn’t buy the flag for the price he proposed, €37,000, while a man on the phone managed to purchase it, proposing 40,000 euros.
«It's worth it. Abdelkrim is the father of the Liberation in Morocco. He was a great scholar. He knew how to resist the Spaniards and the French. Che Guevara and Mao Zedong learned guerrilla warfare by his side», the Moroccan told the same source. He said that this famous flag will return to Morocco, Tangier where the buyer lives.
