A court in a German city called Koblenz has lifted a ban on burkini swimsuits, American news agency Associated Press (AP) reported on Friday.

Muslim women in the city will be allowed to wear the all-encompassing swimsuit in municipal pools following the decision. Burkinis were previously banned in the city after its council applied a ban.

The decision was approved after officials said that the «suit makes it impossible to check whether wearers have open wounds or diseases», AP added.

The court sees that the ban violates the German constitution’s call for people to be treated equally, the news agency concluded.
