Danish engineering company FLSmidth and Morocco’s Société Générale des Travaux du Maroc (SGTM) signed, Wednesday, a contract with TEKCIM S.A., a subsidiary of SGTM, to co-deliver a cement plant, said the Copenhagen-based firm in a communiqué published on its official website.

The plant will be built in Oulad Ghanem, a small town near the city of El Jadida. It is expected to have a daily capacity of 3,600 tons. The contract, awarded for 335 million DKK (483 million dirham), indicates that the plant must be operational by 2022.

The agreement between FLSmidth and TEKCIM was backed by the African Development Bank and local commercial banks, the company said.

«The project includes state-of-the-art equipment that will provide TEKCIM with a very efficient cement plant», the president of FLSmidth Jan Kjaersgaard said, adding that «it also demonstrates FLSmidth ability to support customers where financing is involved, which has been a key aspect to be awarded this project».

The agreement signed this week includes «engineering, supply of a full range of equipment from crushing to packing and loadout, supervision, commissioning and training of a local workforce».

The cement plant project was first announced in 2012 by FLSmidth. At the time, the companies in question said that the plant is to open in 2019.
