Malmo-based War Maritime University (WMU) signed on June 14 a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Morocco’s Higher Institute of Maritime Studies (ISEM) to collaborate on maritime training and capacity building for the international and Moroccan maritime community, the Swedish university announced on its website this week.

The MOU was signed in Casablanca by the President of WMU Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry ISEMS’ director Mohamed Briouig. According to Doumbia-Henry the «MOU with ISEM demonstrates how knowledge transfer and capacity development can translate into an effective contribution to the achievement of UN Sustainable Development Goals».

«WMU is committed to the sustainable development of ocean and maritime industries in developing countries», she added.

Meanwhile, Briouig said that the «strategy now is to transform the ISEM into a regional centre of excellence in maritime education and training, able to support the development of maritime and ocean related activities in Africa and the middle-east».

ISEM and the Swedish university signed a previous MOU in 2016 to strengthen cooperation.
