On Sunday, U.S. President Donald Trump launched a campaign against four Democratic congresswomen, urging them to return to their countries. However, three of these politicians were born in the United States.

«'Progressive' Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe (...) now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run», Donald Trump wrote,

The American president did not name the congresswoman, but implicitly referred to the representative for New York's 14th congressional district Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, who are «women of color and have been outspoken about Trump's immigration policies», CNN reports.

Trump’s attack was followed with tweets, falsely accusing Muslim congresswoman Ilhan Omar of praising al Quaida.

«when I hear people speaking about how wonderful al Qaeda is : That was Omar. How great al Qaeda is», Trump wrote.

CNN debunked Trump’s allegations, stressing that the president was referring to remarks Ilhan made in 2013, addressing al Qaeda.

«It is possible to argue that Omar was making light of al Qaeda's crimes in suggesting that its name itself is what makes people recoil (…) But accusing her of praising al Qaeda is simply inaccurate», CNN clarified.

It is not the first time that Trump attacks Omar. In March, the Muslim congresswoman said that she received an increase in death threats after President Donald Trump tweeted about one of her speeches.

For the record, President Trump published a video that included parts of Omar’s speech and clips from the 9/11 attacks with a caption saying : «We will never forget!».

In February, Somali American politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Minnesota's 5th congressional district criticized the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), saying that «it’s all about the Benjamins baby», referring to the support that Israel has in the Congress.

President Donald Trump reacted to Omar's tweets, urging the congresswoman to resign and calling her apology «lame». Muslim congresswoman Rashida Tlaib was also attacked by Trump after a statement she made on the Holocaust and Israel.
