An independent advisor was appointed Tuesday, July 23, to give expert advice on the definition of Islamophobia in the UK, the British government said a press release.
Imam Qari Asim, Deputy Chair of the Anti-Muslim Hatred Working Group, will lead the process of establishing a definition of Islamophobia. He will be joined by a second advisor that has not been selected yet.
Accoridng to the government, the new definition will take into consideration the already existing ones on Islamophobia.
«The government is wholeheartedly committed to ensuring that Muslims are not targeted for hatred, persecution or discrimination», the same statement revealed.
For the record, the definition will not be «legally binding», the UK government pointed out.
