Police in Nuoro, a city in Sardinia, arrested on Wednesday three Moroccans, two women aged 60 and a 21-year-old man, suspected of being involved in a criminal network that arranges white marriages between Italians and foreign nationals, especially Moroccans.

Once these marriages are documented the women sent to Italy would be hired for prostitution. A 60-year-old Moroccan woman who had been arrested in the past for offences related to prostitution in Italy is suspected of heading the network, local online newspaper Unione Sarda reports.

The investigation that led to the dismantling of this network lasted for six months. According to the same source, the network considered hiring 14-year-old girls to meet the «special sexual needs of some clients». Fortunately, the organization was dismantled before being able to send a 13-year-old girl to the country for the same purposes.
