A jennet called «Cleopatra» wins a donkey beauty pageant in Morocco

On the sidelines of the 12th edition of FestiBaz, a donkey festival hosted by a small town called Beni Ammar Zerhoun, a jennet called «Cleopatra» won, Sunday, a donkey beauty pageant, Spanish news agency EFE reports.

«Cleopatra», was chosen among six other female donkeys because of her beauty and elegance. Abdeljalil, her owner, said that he named her Cleopatra, after the ruler of ancient Egypt who used donkey milk to preserve her beauty.

In addition to the beauty pageant, the festival was home to a donkey race. 17 donkeys participated to the race, won by the fastest donkey in town «Ami de Pourquoi Pas». The latter is a four-year-old donkey and a friend of the former title-holder. «Rambo» and «Fuego» were finished second and third, respectively.

The first winner received a sum of 2500 dirhams, a bag of feed from SPANA, a foundation that improves the welfare of working animals in the world’s poorest communities.
