After a week of anger and an unconvincing reaction of its representative in the United States, the Polisario ended up responding to the article of the Wall Street Journal by publishing a column, namely a letter, on the same newspaper. The latter was mainly directed at journalist Dion Nissenbaum’s article, which revealed that US officials are not interested in having a state in the Sahara.
While the Wall Street Journal did not feature the name of the person who wrote the letter, published Monday, the Polisario Front’s news agency SPS revealed, Tuesday, that it was signed by its representative in Australia and New Zealand Mohamed Kamal Fadel.

Entitled «Let the People of Western Sahara Have a Say», the letter’s author wrote that the «claim that an independent Western Sahara would likely be unstable and offer a foothold to Islamic State is misguided conjecture». He argued, on the other hand, that Sahrawis should «be allowed to decide their future in a referendum».
The silence of the Polisario’s American supporters
Fadel believes that «any ill-conceived or half-baked solution could stoke discontent and lead to the renewal of hostilities». His opinion goes hand in hand with the calls of the Polisario’s leadership, especially those of voiced recently by the movement's leader Brahim Ghali.
In his letter, the Polisario’s representative accuses the Kingdom of «using the fear card to maintain and illegal occupation of Africa’s last colony».
«We should find a speedy just and lasting solution to the question of Western Sahara that would contribute to stability in the region and ward off any threats to world peace».
Having the Polisario’s representative in Australia and New Zealand publish a column on the American newspaper raises a series of questions. Usually, American lobbyists are the ones left to deal with similar missions. This is particularly the case of Suzanne Scholte, President of the NGO «Defense Forum Foundation», who is well known for her many interventions in favor of the Polisario in the media overseas or Kerry Kennedy, President of the Robert Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights.
@Alfudail and I wrote a letter to the @WSJ editors, correcting their prior article, which characterized Western Sahara as a likely foothold for ISIS.https://t.co/x9bBFbQcmN

It is worth mentioning that Kamal Fadel did have an American co-signer; which the Polisario news agency has curiously overlooked. However, in a tweet, Joey Huddleston, an American assistant professor, revealed that he co-wrote the letter with Kamal Fadel.
For the record, the Polisario Front couldn’t hide its anger after the article on the Sahara. Published on Sunday, August 11, the article which sides with Morocco has pushed the Front’s representative in the United Nations Sidi Mohamed Ammar to react.
