An Israeli convict, who is accused of having murdered three people and who had fled his house arrest last year, was captured Saturday by the Moroccan police, as reported by the Sunday Times of Israel citing other Hebrew media.

Golan Avitan was reportedly arrested in a synagogue in Casablanca while his children from Israel visited him. According to reports relayed by the Israeli press, he was reportedly taken to a detention center in the capital Rabat and would have chosen a lawyer.

Golan Avitan escaped in October 2018 after successfully removing his electronic bracelet while under house arrest. He had previously refused an agreement with prosecutors, proposing a nine-year sentence.

Avitan is believed to have participated in a 2003 Tel Aviv bombing that killed three people and injured several dozen others.
