At least forty migrants, including three Moroccans, died in a shipwreck off the coast of Libya. The victims, include a man, a woman and a child from the Kingdom, Euronews reports, quoting AFP and ANSA.

The Libyan navy, with the help of fishermen, reportedly rescued 65 others, mainly from Sudan. They were brought to the coastal town of Al-Khoms.

«We must not simply accept these tragedies as inevitable», Vincent Cochetel, UNHCR Special Envoy for the Central Mediterranean, said. «Sympathies must now become actions that prevent loss of life at sea, and prevent the loss of hope that motivates people to risk their lives in the first place», he added.

About 4,800 refugees are currently being held in detention centers on the Libyan territory in inhuman conditions, which the UN Secretariat has previously condemned.
