The Economist Intelligence Unit has ranked the world’s safest cities to visit in 2019 and Casablanca is not one of them. The 2019 Safe Cities Index (SCI) featured 60 destinations, including Morocco’s economic hub, which was at the bottom of the ranking.
Looking into the digital security, health security, infrastructure and personal safety of these cities, the index ranked Casablanca 54th, among the most unsafe 10 cities on the list provided by the Economist.
The White City scored 53.5 points, with 100 being the best score. It is positioned way behind Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Kuwait City and ahead of Cairo.
Besides the overall ranking, the Moroccan city had a low score in the four sub-rankings of the index. Casablanca ranked 51st in digital security, 54th in health security, 52nd in infrastructure security and 44th in personal security.
Tokyo, Singapore, Osaka, Amsterdam and Sydney topped the Economist Intelligence Unit for the world’s safest cities. Dhaka, Karachi, Yangon, Caracas and Lagos were at the bottom of the ranking.
