Morocco’s support for Venezuela's self-declared interim president Juan Guaido has been one of the main topics discussed on the sidelines of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly. In New York, Moroccan Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita met with Julio Borges, Guaido’s chief foreign policy adviser.
«We held a meeting with representatives from Morocco with the objective of drumming up support for the National Assembly, President Juan Guaido and the Venezuelan people», Borges said.
Morocco supports the opposition leader and refers to him as the «interim president» of the republic. In March, a special envoy was appointed by Guaido to serve as an «ambassador» to Rabat.
The diplomat was also invited by the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs to participate, on July 23 in Rabat, in a meeting attended by ambassadors from the Lima Group. Three weeks later, the kingdom took part in another meeting, in Lima, to support the Venezuelan opposition.
