Since his appointment in 2018, Cuba’s non-resident ambassador to Morocco visited Rabat three times. On Monday, the Speaker of Morocco’s House of Representatives Habib Elmalki received Elio Eduardo Rodriguez Perdomo, the House of Representatives said in a communiqué released on the same day.

«All conditions are put in place to strengthen bilateral relations for the opening of a Cuban embassy in Rabat», the diplomat told reporters. He announced that his country would also appoint a resident ambassador to Morocco. According to the Spanish news agency EFE, Cuba is planning to appoint Javier Domokos Ruiz as its resident ambassador to the Kingdom.

Rodriguez Perdomo’s visit comes two weeks after the Cuban Foreign Minister met with his Moroccan counterpart in New York on the sidelines of the 74th session of UN General Assembly.

Moreover, it is the second time that the Speaker of the House of Representatives meets Rodriguez Perdomo.

For the record, Morocco and Cuba decided to normalize diplomatic relations in April 2017, after a 37-year-long rupture.
