A Moroccan guide is among the people awarded by the Wanderlust World Guide Awards. For its 2019 edition, the contest, which awards the best tourist guides around the world, granted its Bronze Award to Ismail Ingrioui.

The latter is a tour guide who works in the region of Marrakech, allowing tourists from all over the words to discover the wonders of the area. «Growing up as Berber in Morocco’s rugged Atlas Mountains, Ismail has unrivalled insight into local traditions, history and culture», wrote organizers, introducing the Moroccan guide.

Ingrioui, who currently works as a freelancer, «led many tours over the past decade». «Numerous clients have described Ismail’s ability to go the extra mile, managing expectations and organizing spontaneous opportunities while setting the scene of the country with colorful tales of his life», organizers said.

Receiving his award in London on October 2, Ingrioui was described by the judges as a «highly empathetic, knowledgeable and compassionate» guide.

Ingrioui said that he would spend his bursary «on higher education – to learn how to set up a tourism business that provides jobs for locals».

He also plans to «donate part of it to the Association Les Enfants de L’Atlas, an orphanage association based in Morocco», the same source reported.
