Spanish police arrested three Moroccan women who were trying to smuggle a newborn into Almeria through the port of Melilla.

According to El Espanol, one of the three women said that she was the mother of the baby, but without providing documents proving her claims.

Quoting the Spanish police, the newspaper explains that the documents she presented belonged to a three-year-old child that was not accompanying her at the moment of her arrest.

The two other women told police that the baby’s mother is the sister of one of them. The woman who claimed that she is the mother of the baby, and who has a French passport, has eventually presented a Moroccan passport and a family record book to prove that the newborn is her son. However, the document did not contain a photo.

The newborn in question was admitted to a child protection center in the city of Melilla. During the arrest of the three women, the police seized a sum of 11 000 euros, which was hidden in the baby’s diaper, concludes El Espanol.
