Former Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos will be awarded, Monday, in Morocco at the Nador Film and Common Memory Festival, wrote EFE, quoting the event’s organizers.

The Colombian politician, who served as a president from 2010 to 2018, will be honored in Nador for his «contribution to peace and reconciliation». In Nador, Santos will deliver a speech during the opening ceremony of the festival’s eight edition.

The festival will be focusing this year on transitional processes in several countries, including Colombia. The same process in Morocco will also be discussed during the event, which will highlight the «Fairness and Reconciliation» program launched by King Mohammed VI after ascending the throne.

The festival which will also be airing different movies, awarded last year former Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.

Last year, the Nador festival was clouded by political issues, as the Dutch Embassy demanded that the organizers return 40,000 euros that had been advanced for the celebration of the festival.

The embassy thus responded to the fact that the Netherlands was withdrawn from the event as a «guest of honor» for the position voiced by that country regarding the Hirak movement in the Rif.
